    • Review of new proposals/opportunities, to determine appropriate sub-committee assignment or other approach for review in addition to any other items identified by the committee chairs.

    Activities

The Steering Committee will initiate an annual workshop which involves participation from all core and ad hoc membership groups. This includes representatives from key government ministries. The intent of this annual workshop is:

    • To provide a communication forum which highlights the accomplishments of the BSI over the previous year
    • To provide an opportunity for input on the forward strategies and plans of the BSI

The specific timing, location, process and facilitation will be determined by a planning committee which will be established by the Steering Committee in January of each year.

Sub-committee membership should include representation by stakeholders indicated in the membership model. Specific industry representation should adjust as required based on the specific goals and focus areas of the sub-committee, as well as the interest of the individual industries.

It is proposed that the chair for each sub-committee be selected from a significant stakeholder group that aligns well to the core sub-committee objectives. The following alignment has been applied:

    Core Membership

Core members manage the BSI and may contribute financially. They consider achievement of the BSI mission to be in alignment with the values of their own organization. They agree to assume a leadership and implementation role in advocating sustainability practices and projects not only in their own organizations but across the community.

    Ad Hoc Membership

Ad Hoc members agree to follow the principles of the BSI, participate in individual task forces and/or committees. They may bring specialized knowledge or resources. Ad Hoc members may include:

Individual businesses, non-profits, environmental groups, individuals

    Member Expectations/Responsibilities

    BSI invites members to:

    • Participate on committees and attend the annual forum.
    • Share knowledge, experience and expertise with other members.
    • Support the development of policies, initiatives and demonstration projects which advance sustainability.
